Grim Dawn is an action role-playing game intended for digital distribution on the PC. It is being developed by veterans of Iron Lore entertainment, the makers of Titan Quest. Grim Dawn is being built with Crate's own improved version of the Iron Lore engine and toolset; the same technology used to create Titan Quest. As a spiritual successor, Grim Dawn will attempt to better perfect the magical formula of exploration, character advancement, and loot collection pioneered by Diablo.

Players will be thrust into the dark, war-torn world of Cairn where a once proud empire has been brought to ruin and the human race driven to the edge of extinction. Cairn has become ground zero of an eternal war between two otherworldly powers, one seeking to use human bodies as a resource, the other intent upon destroying the human race before that can happen. This cataclysmic war has not only decimated human civilization but is warping the very fabric of reality and, in its wake, giving life to new horrors.

For humankind it is the dawn of a grim new age where iron has replaced gold as currency and the importance of salt as a weapon makes it far too valuable to waste on food. Small enclaves of human survivors exist scattered throughout the world, holed up in hidden refuges. These humans have quietly watched the warring invaders destroy one another and have become wise to the strengths and vulnerabilities of their otherworldly foes. A few survivors have begun to exhibit strange new abilities after surviving possession or exposure to the warp. These unnatural powers are feared by some but give many new hope of launching a resistance to fight the "outsiders" and reclaim what is left of their world.

You are one such individual. Blessed, or perhaps cursed, by the touch of Aetherial influence, you have powers and strength beyond that of normal men. It is now up to you to take this fearsome potential and use it against the enemies of humanity. Will you be the one to save Cairn from its grim fate? Or is humanity doomed to extinction?

Merkmale

Dual Class System allows you to combine any of five distinct skill classes to create your own customized playstyle. Advance your class mastery to unlock over 25 powerful skills and synergistic modifiers per class. Additional classes will be released with expansions.

Choice and Consequence gives you power to shape the world and affect the fate of many. Tough decisions will leave significant impact as strangers on the road, families in need and even entire villages may live or perish based on your actions. With great power comes great responsibility and it is not always easy to predict the outcome of your choices in a world driven to desperate extremes.

Faction-Based Questing lets you improve your relations with different NPC groups to earn rewards (such as merchant discounts, new items, and additional quest lines) as your favor with them increases. However, aiding one faction could turn a rival faction into your enemy. Choose which side you will support!

A Hand-Crafted World immerses you in humanity’s plight as you venture out into detailed environments filled with reminders of a once mighty empire on the brink of annihilation. Grim Dawn’s world strikes a fine balance between hand-crafted design and randomization.

Refined Loot Drops result in less junk items and ensure more consistent rewards from hero and boss monsters.

Brutal Combat featuring blood spatters, dismemberment and physics-based ragdoll. Crush enemies into a pulp, blow them to bits or send them flying over a ledge to their doom.

200+ Hero Monsters individually designed, named and configured with their own special skills provide unique, challenging experiences. You never know where or when enemy heroes may appear and even after hundreds of hours of play, you'll continue to find new names you've never seen before. Occasionally two or more heroes can spawn together to create an ultimate challenge!

Destructible Environments give evidence of your massive battles as you kick through house doors, destroy furniture and smash crumbling walls to reveal secret passages.

Dynamic Weather brings the world to life with region-specific climates and a variety of weather effects. A sunny day can cloud over with mild rain showers that build into a booming thunderstorm. Variable wind gusts blow grass and affect objects like windmills and lanterns.

Multiplayer allows you to connect with old friends or make new enemies in co-op and pvp modes.

Recipe-Based Crafting produces powerful equipment and consumables. Collect recipes from enemies, chests or quest rewards and add them to your crafting compendium. Rare recipes can call for exotic items found in the remote corners of the world. Higher tier recipes can use lower tier crafted items as ingredients, resulting in a pyramidal build up to the most uber crafted accessories.

Controllable Camera Rotation enhances the three-dimensionality of the world and gameplay while levels are still designed so that players are not forced to rotate the camera.

Modding Tools will allow players to create their own content and to share them with the rest of the world. The amount of content available in Grim Dawn will be as limitless as the imaginations of the players.

Wer mal wieder ein ordentliches aRPG spielen möchte und/oder schon Titan Quest gemocht/geliebt hat, der kommt an Grim Dawn nicht herum.

Habe es vor über einem Jahr direkt bei Crate Entertainment gekauft und es sporadisch immer wieder mal gespielt und finde es famos - vor allem auch im Hinblick auf die Entwicklungen die das Spiel bisher mitgemacht hat.

Da es das Spiel nur in englischer Lokalisierung gibt, es aber auch recht offen ist, gibt es für alle jene, die gerne eine deutsche Lokalisation hätten, Abhilfe: www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?p=128756

How Devoted are you?
Yup, we finally spilled. Devotion really exists. After months of teasers and hints, we are ready to talk about the final layer of Grim Dawn’s character customization.

While the system is still being actively developed by our programmers, the core design is in place. Devotion will feature a brand new UI filled with constellations depicting various Grim Dawn deities and symbols. To unlock these constellations, you will need to travel throughout Cairn and restore shrines dedicated to these celestial symbols. Sometimes, a shrine will require repair using various rare materials. Other times, you will have to cleanse a shrine of corruption by defeating whatever dark spawn inhabits it.

Whenever you claim a shrine, you will earn a Devotion point, which you can then spend in the Devotion Window. This earns you additional attributes and bonuses. However, some constellations feature what we are calling secondary skills. These skills are not applied to your skill bar in the usual sense. Instead, you will apply them to your mastery skills and they will trigger additional effects whenever you use the assigned skill.

As an example, imagine that whenever you trigger Cadence, you will also have a chance to auto-cast a meteor to fall upon your enemies. Or whenever you block with Overguard active you will also gain a short buff that increases your damage. We are working on all sorts of awesome secondary effects, but how you use them will be entirely up to you.

We are eager to share more about this exciting feature, but first we have to finish it! You can look forward to Devotion this summer.

Diablo 1 & 2 designer joins Crate team - Grim Dawn Forums

We’re happy to announce that we’ve brought on Eric Sexton to help enrich and accelerate the design work on Grim Dawn.

Starting as an artist when Blizzard North was originally called “Condor,” Eric animated player characters on Diablo 1 and contributed such creative touches as the macabre detailing of the Butcher’s room and wrote many of the quest concepts. Transitioning to more of a design role on Diablo 2, Eric contributed to the story and world development. Most recently, Eric worked on the creature design team for Borderlands II, creating NPCs and monsters.

On Grim Dawn, Eric is primarily involved with world building and the development of lore but is eager to branch out. He was able to get up to speed on level creation quickly and has already made major contributions, building the mountain fortress that will mark the end of Act 3 and working on an expansive high-level swamp region where some faction quests will take place. Eric has demonstrated a special knack for creating unique points of interest within levels to give them a distinctive feel and detailing out dungeons in a way that really enhances the atmosphere.

Build 26: Complete Act 3 and Level Cap Increase - Grim Dawn Forums

[Major New Features]

The Final Chapter of Act 3 is now available. Venture out to the north of Homestead and face off against the vile Cult of Ch'thon and their minions. Learn about what brought the Cult to the north and the cataclysmic plans they have in store for Cairn in Act 4!

Humanity will not survive through the efforts of just one individual. Join forces with the enigmatic Order of Death's Vigil or the zealous Kymon's Chosen factions and turn them into valuable allies in the battles ahead.

Two new Nemesis bosses have been added; one each for the Order of Death's Vigil and Kymon's Chosen factions.

The Level Cap has been increased to 50. Discover new loot and reach for ever greater power as you gain access to over 70 Epic items and class-specific Rare suffixes.

Critical Damage Bonus now visible on Character Sheet

Pet reputation levels sync with player's regularly instead of only on pet creation

Skill confirmation dialog changed back to not require confirmation in between mastery panels

Bonus items from dismantling now have a proper seed

Updated Aether Crack terrain texture and Scattered bone Terrain Texture

Boss and Hero monster health scaling adjusted. Should have minimal impact at the levels you normally fight individual bosses at, but improve scaling at higher levels.

Drop rate of Manticore eyes increased

Rifthounds have had their Component table replaced so that Bristly Furs will drop more consistently in the early game

Drop rate of Bristly Fur from Boneback rats has been increased

Bounty: Mortallis now spawns on the first 3 floors of Steps of Torment instead of the bottom 2 floors. Reward reduced.

Bounty: Lord Executioner has been replaced with a new target that does not require entry into the roguelike dungeon. Reward reduced.

Updated the requirements, rewards and text for various bounties. Some bounties may be reset because of this.

Fixed an issue that could cause players on any bounty to be stuck without a bounty and unable to accept another

Fixed Stone Clan Groble bleed dealing excessive damage

Sped up default cast animations by 8%

Fixed an issue with being unable to complete the Seamstress quest

[Itemization]

12 new Faction Augments have been added to support Pet builds

6 new Faction Augments have been added for Burn, Coldburn and Electrocute builds

Many older Monster Infrequents (MIs) have had their stats updated to bring them in line with more recently introduced MIs

Rare Suffix - Abomination: removed % Offensive Ability for real this time, added % Physical damage

Component - Arcane Spark: can now also be applied to Medals

Component - Mark of the Myrmidon: added 16% Reflect

Crafting - several blueprints have been updated to use Chthonic Seals of Binding instead of Aether Crystals. More blueprints will be introduced in the future that use this crafting material.

14 new Epics have been added to the loot pool in the 10-50 range

[Class & Skills]

Soldier

Warcry: now has tiered effects that scale in size to more accurately represent the skills effect radius. Radius increased.

Markovian's Advantage and Zolhan's Technique have been adjusted to provide a more fair value relative to other weapon pool skills, for their weight for point investment. They now increment to 25% prior to the level cap, then only bonuses increment.

Markovian's Advantage and Zolhan's Technique bonuses have been shifted around and rebalanced to be more in line with the number of targets each skill hits

Blade Arc: Bleed and % Weapon damage scaling increased

Break Morale: changed from % Total resistance reduction to absolute Physical resist reduction. The resistance reduction also scales up to about twice what the original provided.

Demolitionist

Fire Strike: Fire damage scaling with rank increased

Static Strike: base chance increased from 15% to 30%, scaling to 60% at max and 75% at ultimate. Damage adjusted to start lower but scale higher.

Quick Jacks: Lightning damage reduction increased to -30%, from -25%

Occultist

Wasting: Vitality damage increased

Black Death: Poison damage increased. Vitality and Bleed % damage bonuses increased

Sigil of Destruction: Chaos and Fire damage increased

Nightblade

Weapon-pool skill weights now all start at 8% and increment to 20% by level 5. Beyond that level, only the power of the skill increases.

Scaling on various weapon pool skills adjusted based on the higher starting weights and change of Nidalla's Hidden Hand to affect Belgothian's Shears and Amarasta's Quick Cut.

Belgothian's Shears %physical bonus changed to pierce so that it isn't self-boosting and flat physical scaled down slightly.

Amarasta's Quick Cut %weapon damage scales to a higher cap. Pierce damage also increased at cap but %pierce was removed.

Whirling Death %weapon damage starts lower but scales faster to reach within 5% of the than the original cap. Bleed damage scaling increased.

Ring of Steel: Pierce damage starts lower but scales faster to reach a higher max damage

Circle of Slaughter: Bleed damage significantly increased

Blade Trap: replaced % Weapon damage, which was actually not functioning, with flat Pierce damage. A significant damage increase for the skill. % Defensive Ability reduction now scales with rank, starting at -25%, instead of being -50% at all ranks.

Devouring Blades: added % Pierce bonus, reduced starting % Damage Converted to Health to 25%, from 33%

Frenetic Throw: Total damage reduction increased

Lethal Gambit: % Current Life damage minimum now scales up to 7% at max ranks instead of remaining at 1% at all ranks

Amarasta's Blade Burst: % Weapon damage now scales up to 75%, up from 50%

Merciless Repertoire: % damage bonuses increased. Added % Acid damage bonus

Arcanist

Panetti's Replicating Missile: slightly increased scaling, more so at rank 13 and above

Distortion: slightly increased Aether damage scaling with rank, with a bump at rank 12. Added % Fire damage

Supercharged: % Elemental damage bonus increased with rank

Proliferation: now starts at 2 additional fragments, % Aether damage bonus increased with rank

Sky Shard: area of effect scaling increased, but energy cost increased with rank as well
